About

Hi! My name is Lotte, 22 year old living in Maastricht, the Netherlands.  This summer I received my BSc degree in Applied Psychology and will be starting my MSc in Mental Health soon.

Our society is incredibly succes driven. Rushing us to gain one major accomplishment after the other. Sharing only our peak moments during social events and on our timelines. We rarely mention the fall backs and doubts we have had in between, even though that’s when we learn the most. On this blog I like to break the walls between ‘the good and the bad times’, mix them together and smooth them out into one big learning experience. In an effort to normalize mental health issues and soften the times we are dealing with strong emotions.

Success doesn’t only lie in getting to the end goal. Focus on the journey, not the destination.

On being an open book

If someone is an open book, it is easy to know what they are thinking and feeling.

I’ve been told to be an open book many times. As a child my mom would tell me I was incapable of lying to her because if so, she would immediately read it from my face. This would bother me a great deal. It felt like a weakness not being able to bluff my way trough.

It was later, when I started studying psychology, that I began to notice benefits of being an open book. My own incapability of hiding my emotions made me more willing and openminded to hear about other people’s discomforts. Revealing your inner thoughts relieves stress, connects people and shows we are not all that different.
